2:DIARY BY URUGUAYAN STAFF

This year the winter in the Northern Hemisphere brought record snowfall and Japan was no exception. Japan is known in Asia as one of the best places to practice winter sports, even hosting the Winter Olympics on two different occasions. Japan has excellent quantity and quality of snow in the winter months, consequently there are more than 500 ski resorts throughout the country. Among the most prominent are Nisekko in Sapporo (said to receive more snowfall than anywhere else in the world), Hakuba in Nagano (very popular with foreigners, various winter Olympics events were held in this location ), Yuzawa in Niigata (Very popular place because it is only 200 km from Tokyo). A large number of these ski resorts also have hot spring baths, which make them perfect locations for a well deserved rest.

However, the Japanese winter is not only ski resorts, another of the great attractions of this time are the lighting with different designs and motifs. Like everything in Japan it is taken to another dimension, even reaching 5 million lights for a single display.

I personally like to travel in Japan at this time because the absence of large crowds and the events only available during this time make the experience much more enjoyable. This year has brought with it the good news of the distribution of vaccines to combat COVID-19 in a large number of countries. Hopefully by next year you too can enjoy all that the Japanese winter has to offer.
